Classic nature photography was often about capturing a sense of wonder on a large scale. However, there is also beauty in nature at other scales.  I find beauty, often at an intimate scale, in the patterns of growth and decay that create the world around us.  Growth tends to be highly orderly; in fact, scientists have found that fractals are the universal pattern of growth. The effects of decay, on the other hand, while influenced by rhythms of weather, tides, human activity, and the like, are fundamentally random. These opposing forces create images that are unique and beautiful, and that provide moments of peace in a world that is often too busy, both visually and in activity.  This page has a selection of my images of trees, grasses, flowers and their environments where the patterns of growth and color interact in unique ways.
